Istituto Auxologico Italiano

The Istituto Auxologico Italiano, a non-profit private foundation, is a Clinical Research Institute coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Health, and has research and teaching agreements with the Universities of Milano, Milano-Bicocca, Torino, Pavia, Università del Piemonte Orientale, and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. It includes clinical hospitals (>500 beds) and is focused on biomedical research. In 1972, the Italian government granted its legal status as a high-level research hospital. Experimental and clinical research is conducted in 28 laboratories whose activities are integrated with the patient care units. The fields of excellence are Cardiovascular Diseases, Obesity, Metabolic, Neurodegenerative Diseases, Rehabilitation, and Sleep Disorders. AUX has a large Medical Genetics Laboratory for assessment of the genomic background of cardiovascular, metabolic and neurological diseases and methylation studies, as well as equipment for deep genome and exome sequencing. The investigators at AUX are recognised leaders in their fields, and their research has been constantly funded by national and international funding agencies, including the European Community.
