Dr. Ludger Grote

Dr. Ludger Grote (MD, PhD) is the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Centre at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. After training in sleep medicine at the Zeitreihenlabor, University of Marburg, Germany, (headed by Dr. Jörg Herman Peter) he joined the sleep research group at Sahlgrenska University (group leader Dr. Hedner) from 1998. Today he is an Adjunct Professor in the area of sleep-related disorders at Sahlgrenska Academy, UGOT, and supervisor for five ongoing PhD students in both respiratory and sleep research. Topics of his ongoing research include development of diagnostic methods for cardio-metabolic risk assessment during sleep, epidemiology of sleep disorders, particularly in chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), traffic safety in sleep apnoea, and the interaction of pain, restless legs syndrome, and sleep. He joined the Research Group for Sleep and Respiratory Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, as a guest researcher (2015-16). Dr. Grote has published more than 200 original papers, book chapters, and monographs. He is active in national and international networks such as ESADA, SESAR, the Swedish Oxygen and Home Ventilation Registry (SWEDEVOX), and the SLEEP Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioimaging Study (SCAPIS) group. In the ESRS, he served as the Chair of the Executive Committee of the ANSS (2010-14) and as a current member of the Sleep Education and examination Committee.
